The Tiger and the Wolf is the first book I have read by Adrian Tcaikovsky, and ok the cover art certainly drew me in.  As I was going on holiday I decided to buy it to read on the flight, and I found I couldn’t put the book down.

The tiger and the wolf is the first book in the Echoes of the fall series.

At first after reading the blurb about people transforming into wolfs or tigers I have to admit I was a bit sceptical that it was going to be a generic werewolf kind of book, however I was pleasantly surprised and have already order book two The bear and the serpent.

In the world Adrian Tchaikovsky has created every body belongs to a tribe who’s tribe you belong to signifies the animal you can step to (stepping is the transformation from human to animal form)

The main character Maniye is the daughter of the Chief of the Winter Runners, but she’s different.  Maniye has a secret, she’s an outcast she’s different from the rest of her pack and the secret could get her killed.  Her father the chieftain has a plan for her though one that raise himself and winter runners above all others no matter the cost. conflict has come to the north, at the same time strife has struck the south and some travellers have travelled all the way to the frozen North in the hope of building alliances for a civil war to come for his come in search of aid from the iron wolves.

For anyone who enjoys fantasy books I cannot recommend this book enough. Its a very gripping story, and has everything you need grittiness, action, suspense secrets and you wont want to put it down.
